Calliope Sedant is an original character.
Before the Game
Calliope was born in Corinth, Georgia in 1773. Born to Aaron and Deborah Masters, Calliope was given her unique name by her father, a man of university education who was very fond of all things Greek. Aaron was a shopkeeper of some substantial wealth, and Calliope was their only child. She was born with bright red hair, and many people in town were alternately envous and fearful of the dark color. Patrick Flannery was one of the people who took an interest in her, starting to send her trinkets and gifts when she was four years old. Deborah immediately went on the defensive, upset that he was trying to court her daughter so early, but Aaron saw nothing wrong with arranging a marriage early on. One night when Calliope was almost five, after her parents had an argument over her suitor, Patrick came to the Masters home and shot both of her parents while she slept. He left and didn't return for two days, playing her rescuer. She had seen their corpses and immediately returned to her room. The shock rendered her mute for a time.
For a few weeks, she stayed with Patrick, skittish and still not speaking. She knew he had ill intentions for her, instinctually fearing him. Patrick didn't want Calliope for himself, his plan was to sell her to one Rudolph Sedant, a man of substantial wealth and age. Patrick had found out Rudolph's secret, that he was a vampire, and Patrick wanted to be turned. Upon finding out that Patrick had succeeded, Rudoph went to the Flannery home and snapped the unfortunate man's neck. Rudolph took Calliope to his own house. That's when her nightmare started. Immediately, he chained her to the basement where he would sell her time and services, letting anyone do anything they wanted to her for however much they wanted to pay. Only their silence was required. From four to twenty-one, Calliope would see one to five "callers" a day, enduring unspeakable pain - all of which was repaired by Rudolph's blood. Eventually, when she was twenty-one, the townspeople realized that Old Mister Sedant simply wasn't aging or growing more feeble. Rumors spread, and they eventually descended upon him to "drive out the demon". Rudolph had been anticipating it happening sometime, and before fleeing, turned Calliope and unchained her.
Calliope managed to escape as well, living in the woods off of animals for a time before she was seen and caught by some well-wishers who thought she was homeless and insane. She was insane, but being put into an asylum as she was would have surely killed her if she hadn't been taken care of in the evenings by an orderly who had sympathy for her plight and knowledge of vampires themselves. The orderly knew a vampire of some renknown up north, known only as The Iron Lady due to her cruelty and sternness. Once under her wing, Calliope thrived. She remained as The Iron Lady's right hand until she was vortexed, doing everything from mending human staff (having earned her medical degree in the late ninteen-forties) to her favorite thing, killing and dispatching people seen as enemies. Her reputation for torture, sadism, and cruelty extended and deepened through the years she spent in New York City, earning her the nickname The Red Lady.
Calliope's personality is warped and flawed. On one hand, she wants to be kind and nurturing, everything she wanted as a child and never recieved. However, that side is outweighed by her capacity for cruelty, her desire to hurt the world in equal measure to the pain she's felt. She regularly drains people enough to sedate them before torturing them for weeks, as long as she can keep them alive. She believes in quality of pain, not quantity. She will only be happy with her life once she's killed Rudolph, her sire. Due to her being vortexed, and him not being in her new universe, she will likely never be happy.
Since Arrival
Calliope was in the game for a time, then left. She is revortexed with her knowledge of the time prior - she is still aware of her sire, Johanna Barker, and still has all of her other friendships intact. She still is replacing the CEO of Bank of America. Since returning, she has found employment with Erik Northman and Dethklok along with aligning herself with Mephisto. She has a savage crush on the latter, but will never admit it to anyone but the demon himself.
