David was the new kid in school, as always. His dad worked for the National Security Agency. His family moved often, so he was always new. Eventually he stopped bothering to make friends, attachments. They'd always be severed.
No one knows exactly when David's mental problems started- whether they were something just floating to the surface long before he moved to the last town he'd ever move to with his family, or if they were brought on by the events that transpired afterwards. But his mom and dad getting enslaved by aliens and him getting stuck in a rat's body for two years certainly didn't help his mental state.
At the end of book 48 (you can read the whole 90 pages here), Rachel is presented yet again with the choice: put David back on his island, still trapped as a rat? Or kill him? As David begs her for death, suddenly a tornado-shaped hole opens in the world and sucks him away...
Now he's human again. In an alternate universe. It's a shock to the system, and even more of one to find out: he can morph again. He's replaced a child actor in a teen TV drama, a minor character. He even has a family now: a Hollywood manager-mom-and-dad set (in the middle of a divorce), and a big brother. Will he be satisfied with a semi-normal life and his new, fake family? Will his ambitions for a life of luxury get the better of him? Or... will it be his twisted lust for revenge that finally takes him over?
<I was smarter than any of you.>
Personality "quirks": David has no problem with killing animals. This includes people in morph. For example, when he was trying to systematically exterminate the Animorphs, he killed a red-tailed hawk that he thought was Tobias, but he won't kill people in human form. "I killed an animal, not a person. I'm not a murderer." Nor does he believe animals can commit crimes. He wanted to rob a bank in morph so he could start a new life, and that gave him no conscience issues. "What are they gonna do? 'Arrest that eagle!' I don't think so." David also probably thinks he's better than you. He's got a bit of a superiority complex. If that wasn't enough, being a rat for two years has given him some issues as well. Hang out with him for five minutes and you'll see it. I'm sure you can imagine.
Morphs from canon: seagull, flea, cockroach, white rat, lion, rattlesnake, golden eagle, orca, Marco, Saddler (Rachel and Jake's cousin), random other human.
Morphs acquired since arrival: None yet.
