Born Edward Athony Mason in 1901, he was turned into a vampire by Carlisle Cullen in 1918 to save him from death. Edward has two graduate degrees in medicine, but because his physical appearance is that of a 17 year old, his "cover" always remains as a high school student. The Cullens moved from Alaska to Forks, Washington because of the weather -- the lack of sun allows them to walk outside during the day. If sunlight were to hit them, their skin would shine like diamonds and the truth about vampires would be revealed to a world that believes them to be a myth.

Edward, in addition to having great speed and strength, is able to read minds. He feeds on animal blood only (the same as the rest of his family), his skin is very pale and cold to the touch. He finds that he is the outcast of his own family sometimes, since everyone else is "matched" up.

Edward was pulled through the vortex at the beginning of "Twilight", the first novel in the series, before he has met Bella Swan. He has replaced Stephen King (somehow sharing him along with Shigure Sohma) and is played by Jo.
