History

Kris Furillo, ex-con, jockey, ranch hand, and love-interest-of-Junior-and-Matt extraordinaire was born July 29th, 1986 in Southern California. She and her older half-brother Jase lived with their mom, after their dad walked out on the family whenKris was very young. She hasn't spoken to him since, despite herbrother's attemps to try to reconcile the two in 2007. Kris' mom, Barb, was a junkie and a petty thief who was out scoring drugs or socializingmore often than not and so Kris and Jase were left to fend forthemselves most of the time which is where Kris' fierce independent streak comes from. Kris' friends became the only real family she had,the only people she felt she could depend on. Kris fell in love with an older boy when she was in her late teens, a smart-aleck adrenaline junkie who hocked cars. The two were hot and heavy for a while and hetaught her how to hotwire cars. The car she was caught stealing, shestole for him. This was her second strike, the judge could tell thatKris wasn't a hardened criminal yet and sentenced her to Camp LaGrange, hoping Kris would find something there to help get her life back ontrack and she did: Wildfire.

Kris had never been around horses when she was introduced to the Camp LaGrange program, she was unsureand apprehensive until she met Wildfire who she just clicked withalmost instantly. She started taking her classes seriously, stoppedmouthing off to the guards, everything she had to to keep herself incontact with Wildfire. Her dedication to the horse brought her to theattention of Pablo Betart, the head trainer at Raintree Farms. Pablosaw a little of himself in the headstrong, angry girl. He convinced Jean Ritter, the owner of Raintree to hire Kris once she was paroled out of Camp LaGrange. Jean was naturally hesistant but after a shakystart she began to warm up to the former jailbird. Raintree waseverything Kris could want; she got to work around horses and got afresh start in a new place, away from the bad influences of her past.

Kris' new life however was put in jeopardy when she learned that Wildfire wasto be sold at auction, the news that he would be sold to slaughter sentKris into a panic. She couldn't save him, she didn't have the money tobuy him, but she couldn't let him die. Kris did all she could and thenshe snuck into the auction house and stole Wildfire. The chase lastedfor miles as she outran police cars and hid out in the brush of thehills near Raintree. Her desperate attempt to save Wildfire wastelevised across the state and Jean, seeing this, could not let Wildfire be killed. She bought Wildfire for Kris to train, when she wasagain released from prison.

Kris only spent a few months in jail this time, and when she returned to Raintree the Rittersdiscovered she was quite talented as a jockey. She rode Wildfire inrace after race and won every single one of them. She was on top of theworld, until she was hired to ride another horse, this time in a raceagainst Wildfire. Kris was in first place when she was thrown from herhorse because of another jockey Tina Sharp's underhanded manoeuvering.  Wildfire, who was being ridden by Sharpe at the time leapt over Krisafter she was thrown, barely avoiding trampling her at the last second.  Kris lost her confidence in herself after this and had a hard timefinding a way back into the saddle. Finally, with Pablo's help, Kris found her way back onto Wildfire and the two went on to win the Breeder's Cup a prestigious accomplishment in the racing world, that came with a very large purse for the struggling Raintree Farms. Kris' manager, and then boyfriend Kerry turned out to be a con artist and hestole all the money she won in that race and then disappeared.

After this Kris took every job she could afterward to try to make back the money she'd lost by trusting Kerry for Raintree but she barely put adent in it. She was desperate again, Raintree was in jeopardy and itwas her fault. She had come to look upon the Ritters as family and Kriswould do everything in her power to protect her family. So she did a foolish thing, she entered Wildfire in an illegal race against Raintree's rival, Davis Farms with a two million dollar prize for thefastest horse. Kris and Wildfire beat Avatar but the authorities werenotified of the race and were at Raintree ready to revoke Jean's racinglicense when she got back. Kris' triumph turned into her downfall when she told Jean about the race. Jean banished her from the ranch, eventhough Kris gave up the money and her riding license to save Raintree's racing license. When we last saw Kris she was a broken woman, alone inthe world with no place to go.

In between all this, Kris has managed to alienate the daughter of the owner of Davis farms, DaniDavis and seriously date the Davis Heir apparent, Junior. Kris was in arelationship with Matt Ritter when Jean fired her from Raintree however, as she and Junior had broken up a few months prior. Matt and Junior had been best friends before Kris appeared on the scene, but the constant fighting over her has done seemingly irreparable damage to their relationship.

Personality

Kris is a loyal person, one who will do anything to help those she cares about. Her downfall isthat she is wildly impulsive, except when it comes to herrelationships. She doesn’t have it in her to jump into a relationshipwith someone because she fears the effects of being hurt by being rejected.
