L is a 25 year old man from the Death Note 'verse. At 5'10" when fully erect, L hunches down as he stands to about 5"7" and never truly sits or stands properly. He is always hunched over, usually sitting in a crouched position, huddled over his own legs like a rather paranoid looking owl. However, his sickly pale skin and skinny frame belies his strength, both mental and physical. His eccentric personality and obvious disregard for his personal appearance also belies his intelligence.

L is a gifted individual. He is able to see patterns and has a photographic memory, and uses his skills in forensics and psychology to track down criminals. In his world, and in his lifetime, he had become known as the greatest criminal investigator and detective in the world. He also came to be known as the second and third best as well, due to his foresight to make aliases. L spent most of his time chasing after serial killers and potential worldwide threats. He was well known for, amongst other things, solving the B.B. Murders case, and his work on the Kira case. His last case before his death was working firsthand at finding a vaccine for a virus that could have potentially destroyed all of humanity. Due to circumstances, he was immune to everything but a heart attack, predetermined to take his life at a certain point in time, only 23 days after solving the Kira case.

L grew up at an orphanage for gifted children, Wammy's House. He was the star child of the proprieter, Watari. He often self-taught, though he had incredible teachers and tutors, and was very good at tennis - so good, in fact, that he won the Junior's League, three years in a row. He was also taught self defense - Capoeira and kick-boxing. He doesn't often find a need for self defense, but he has a jarring blow with just a simple kick.

In L's life, there were very few people he considered trustworthy enough to be considered a friend. His closest companion was Watari, and he found companionship with Naomi Misura, an FBI agent who worked with him during the B. B. Murders case. He's not unable to trust people, but it takes a considerably long time for him to give his trust and friendship. He prefers to be alone, and is quite introverted.

He is quite fond of sweets, claiming the sugars are used to fuel the brain, and that eating them makes him think better. He eats fruits, fish, and rice, but those are overshadowed by his love for snack foods, candies, chocolate, and dessert foods.
