Petit is the daughter of Remy LeBeau, and a gypsy woman he had a night with shortly before his marriage to Belladonna. Petit was raised by Henri (and the rest of the guild) thinking that Remy was an uncle (and possibly just an `uncle` like most everyone else) even though she had his eyes. She always presumed it was a familial genetic trait that popped up at random. She did eventually learn the truth, but it didn`t much matter because she was her own person by then.
Her own powers kicked in when she was fifteen and attacked by an alligator. She can change density at will, going from black-hole solid to completely intangible. A side-effect of this is that when she`s completely intangible she pops into what she calls `the Backstage` which is, in fact, an overlapping dimension, not exactly a pocket dimension, but something similar. There are creatures there that she calls the Shadows, due to her using the Backstage as a means of transportation (things in the usual world take up less space there, making it easier to cover long distances) she learned to communicate with them, and can see when they move over into the normal realm.
She became friends with Michel of the Assassins guild, because she wanted to be an Assassin and he wanted to be a Thief, this worked out well because they taught each other things, and when Petit was sixteen and decided that she was actually going to be an Assassin instead, Michel was the one to give her the Trials, which she passed with flying colors.
Since then she`s been having the time of her life being the Thieves Guild`s pet Assassin, and the Assassins Guild`s pet Thief, and happily squashing any and all rumors that she`s going to take over either Guild.
None of this, of course, is common knowledge, and she isn't at all related to the Remy in-game, her father is currently happily living on a pirate island called New Tortuga.
