In Angel the Series canon, Wes was shot by a zombie cop in S2E14 "The Thin Dead Line". The next two episodes ("Reprise" and "Epiphany") saw Wes in a wheelchair. So. This is Wheelchair!Wes, paralysed because the bullet lodged in his spine.
